CLINTONVILLE, WI- Waupaca County SWAT team responded to an armed standoff on Monday. Clintonville Police were dispatched to the 100 block of North Main Street for a domestic disturbance at 7:20 p.m.
Officers reported making contact with family members when they arrived on scene. It was reported that a 32-year-old man inside the house was intoxicated and was possibly armed. The suspect made comments about not wanting to go back to prison, according to officials at the scene.
Police said they tried to contact the man over the phone, but he did not comply.
Police then closed down some of the area, including establishing a perimeter from 16th Street north to 20th Street as well as Main Street and Anne Street. Residents nearby were told to stay in their homes.
Waupaca County SWAT team arrived at 10:25 p.m. and was taken into custody in the early morning hours.
Clintonville police were assisted at the scene by the Marion police, the Waupaca County sheriff’s deputies, Clintonville Area Ambulance Service, Clintonville Fire Department and Compassionate Connections.
