SHAWANO, WI- Shawano School Board President Mike Musolff is making it easier for the public to be involved in school board issues in the future. “Transparency is very important to me, and it should be to the whole board,” he said.
Moving forward, the school board meeting agendas will will always include community, staff, and student comments at the normal place on the agenda. Musolff said however, he is adding more. “We will also add community, staff and student comments at the end of meeting, prior to adjournment, and in addition, the board president will be able to call for community, staff and student comments at anytime during the meeting,” he said. “We will be hearing from our community, staff and students while we are making decisions.”
Musolff said he is also making sure that any presentations that are made at committee meetings, will also be presented at the regular board meetings. “It is extremely important all board members receive the same information prior to voting.” Board documents will also be made more available with all supporting documents being posted for public display when the agenda is posted. He said any exemptions would have to be approved by the board president.
In addition, Musolff said that closed sessions will follow state statutes. “There is no reason to hide information in closed session that should be allowed in open session,” he said.
Musolff said he notified Superintendent Randi Anderson and the board of this decision and change of course.
