Arrest Made In Military Vehicle Pursuit


SHAWANO COUNTY, WI- Shawano County Sheriff Deputies responded to reports of a military-type vehicle on Hwy 29 in western Shawano County traveling down the roadway with a flat tire Sunday evening. The initial call came in around 5:15pm and indicated that the vehicle was causing a traffic hazard; it was later determined this was a historic military vehicle owned by a private citizen.

Shawano County Sheriff’s Office deputies located and attempted to initiate a traffic stop with this vehicle. The vehicle driver led them on a short vehicle chase, The driver would not cooperate and would not exit the vehicle. Due to comments made by the driver and the conditions of this incident, the Shawano County Special Response Team responded to this scene. Deputies, including trained negotiators, attempted to deescalate the situation. Arrangements were made with the Shawano County Highway Department for the use of heavy equipment in case this suspect vehicle became mobile again.

At approximately 9:30 pm the suspect began to flee in the vehicle again heading eastbound on Hwy 29. Deputies attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, using the snowplow trucks in an attempt to perform a moving roadblock. The suspect vehicle then crossed the median and began driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of Hwy 29. The suspect eventually came back to the eastbound lanes but then again crossed the median and was driving the wrong way down the highway.
At one point the suspect driver drove into the median and a deputy operating a snowplow truck was able to pin the truck into the median, immobilizing it. The suspect would not exit his vehicle and had to be removed with force. No serious injuries were reported to any law enforcement or this suspect.
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Shawano County Highway Department, Tigerton Ambulance, and the Stockbridge Munsee Police Department.
