The Shawano school board met for more than two hours in closed session Monday. School board member Mart grams said in the end the board voted to approve the administration’s recommendation to make 20 position cuts. Grams told tch daily news that the staff members were notified that their position was on the list to be cut during the school day on Monday. Grams said the board members were not given the names of the staff members during the approval process, just the positions. Grams said some of the 20 were retired not replaced. The list also included long term employees, which only have year contracts, and weren’t renewed, and 9 professional staff. Grams said no Administration cuts were made Monday. These cuts were part of the districts process to “right-size” the staff, based on the declining enrollment. The efforts do clear up some of the budget, but more decisions, including more staff cuts might be needed to achieve that.
