SHAWANO, WI- The Shawano School Board approved the sale of a property, even though the highest bid game in lower than the asking price.
At the last Shawano School Board meeting, the board approved on an 8-1 vote to sell the old Wescott Town Hall building and property to Richard Muth for $67,100. The minimum asking price that was set was $70,000, but the bids were blind bids, leaving the school board with a decision.
“It’s not quite what we wanted, but the recommendation is that we should take the bid and move on,” said board president Michael Sleeper.
That idea did not sit well with fellow board member Mart Grams. “I know the market is booming, so that bothers me a little,” said Grams.
Finance Director Josh Swanson the fair market value for the property was $65,000. Sleeper felt rejecting the bids and trying again was not worth it since they are trying to get rid of the property.
In 2019, the Town of Wescott deeded the property back to the school district. The building was once used as a schoolhouse.
