SHAWANO, WI- The Shawano Police Department participated in their first annual “Shop With A Cop”. The popular Christmas program allows a group of selected kids to shop for their families with the help of an officer.
“These kids that are selected are kids that would not have had the means to be able to shop for their loved ones without this program, “Police Chief Brad Rabideau said. “It is all about the spirit of giving for the holidays.”
Kids arrived at Walmart with a Christmas list for their family members, and officers took the kids around the store to get those items and helped them wrap them.
“Some think that the kids are shopping for themselves, but they are shopping for others,” Rabideau said.
The event was organized by Officer Brandi Hoffman. Many officers participated.
Walmart assisted and provided treats for the participants along with a space to do the wrapping.
Shawano School District assisted with getting the kids ready for the day.
Rabideau says he hopes that the program continues to grow in Shawano.
