Alice “Mudge” Lathrop, age 98, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 1, 1923, in the Town of Mukwa (Waupaca County) daughter of the late Elmer and Meta (Ziebell) Kent. Alice attended Oak Grove Country School and later graduated from Washington High School, New London. She was employed at Pichelmeyers Drug Store. Alice passed away on what would have been her 78th wedding anniversary to Herbert Lathrop; they were united in marriage at Emanuel Lutheran Church, New London on December 18, 1943. Herb preceded her in death in 2011. She was a stay-at-home mom raising their 5 children and helping with the farm work. She also worked as a poll worker for 43 years for the Town of Hortonia and as a bookkeeper for Lathrop Farm Equipment for many years, and was a member of the Town & Country Homemakers Club for many years. Alice loved to cook and bake. Her family and friends would enjoy her homemade bread, buns, pies, cakes, and cookies for years. She loved county music and played it at home and loved going to concerts with her family and friends. Alice enjoyed playing cards with her family and also played with her friends at the Legion.
Alice is survived by three sons, James (Darlene) Lathrop, Crandon; Jon (Patty) Lathrop, New London; David Lathrop, New London; two daughters, Sally (David) Brooks, New London and Marilyn Lathrop, New London-(fiancé, Larry Willenkamp), Appleton. Grandchildren: Melissa (Joe) Gerrits; Joel Wege, Ashley (Jessie) Simon, Lisa (Kraig) Monty, Jenifer (Shawn) Retzlaff, Kenneth (Nikke) Chally, Jess (Nicki) Lathrop, Jason (Brenna) Lathrop, and Joshua (Robin) Lathrop; 21 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law Elvera Kent. She is further survived by a former daughter-in-law Diane Lathrop and former son-law Ron (Ann) Wege and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Herb, granddaughter Tracey Kent, her siblings, Beat (Gordon) Dorow, Jerry (Bernice) Kent, Jen (Robert) Frank, and David Kent; her in-laws, Frances (Robert) Peebles, Kenneth Lathrop, Lydia Scott, Harold (Helen) Lathrop, Melvin (Bernice) Lathrop and Robert (Bette) Lathrop.
Funeral services for Alice will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, New London with Rev. Mark Tiefel officiating. Burial will be in the Floral Hill Cemetery, New London. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Ritchie family, Kathy and Bill Klegin, Lois and Rene Grode, Doug and Pat Ehardt. Also, everyone that called or sent cards to Alice, it made her life much more enjoyable.
Mom was blessed to have wonderful doctors that took care of her over the years. Thank you to Dr. Carlos Yu and Judy, Dr. Peter Schmitz and Amy, Dr. Timothy Houlihan, John, Voni and Jamie, and Dr. Alex Tretinyak and Malorie. Also, the Bethany home, Waupaca, and to ThedaCare Hospice for helping Mom get her wish to get back home to spend her last days with her family.
