MADISON, WI- Not many teams from the area made it to State in WIAA Football this year, but Division 7 has an all-area matchup between Coleman and Reedsville.
The Cougars are are perfect 13-0 this season and have defeated three unbeaten and highly ranked teams to get to Thursday’s Championship. Much of that has been due to their offense. Peter Kuchta scored three times in their Level 4 win over Eau Claire Regis and that running game has been aided by Junior Owen Kinzinger who has more than 1,600 yards and 19 touchdowns and Will Bieber who has just under 1,00 yards rushing with 11 touchdowns. Kuchta says the guys up front like Brody Zahn and Cole Klimek make a difference.
“The line is big and mean so it is nice to have them”
Those two linemen are also a force on defense with Zahn leading the team with 15 tackles for a loss and 73 total tackles and Klimek with 94 tackles on the season.
“This was the hardest game we ever had,” said Peter Kuchta. He says he expects the State Championship to be even tougher.
Will Bieber has also been noted on defense as he is tied for 5th in the state with six interceptions and has 67 tackles.
“Will is a kid who has been in big games and we is locked in, he is a special athlete,” said Coach Jeff Bronson.
Beiber is part of the group that has been to State in Wrestling and Baseball already and now they have football to add to the list.
“They are family, working all year through tough times, easy times, it has been a fun ride,” Bieber said.
That ride will end where every teams dreams of finishing their season…Camp Randall in Madison. Coach Bronson says it does not get better than that.
“I think the line is…It is a great day to be a Cougar.”
