
Sally Kugel, age 83, of the Town of Waukechon, Shawano County, passed away at home with her family by her side on Thursday, November 4, 2021. Sally was born in Wausau on November 29, 1937, to the late Walter and Edna (Tabbert) Maltbey. Sally graduated from Shawano High School in 1956 and went on to work at the Outagamie Bank in Appleton. On April 4, 1959, she was united in marriage to Thomas “Tom” Kugel at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. Sally worked at National Bank in Shawano until she and Tom had their first child. Together the couple raised four wonderful children and operated their family farm. Sally was a long-time member of St. Ann’s Society at St. Wenceslaus and volunteered her time in the kitchen at Sacred Heart. She loved to bake and made numerous wonderful cakes and desserts for her family and friends. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, watching the birds, and rarely missed her grandsons’ ball games. She cherished her trips up north with her family and had a special place in her heart for her special cat, Precious. Sally was a wonderful and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother and will be deeply missed by her family.
Sally is survived by: her husband Tom; her children, Theresa (Steve) Gueths of Shawano, Joe Kugel of Shawano, Dave (Nanette) Kugel of Shawano, and Pete (Tonie Dunst) Kugel of Saukville; her grandsons, Andrew Gueths and Austin (Kaitlynn) Gueths; her great-grandchildren, Owen and Emelia; niece, Kim (Dave) Herrmann; and good friend, Eileen Elertson. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Edna, her brother and sister-in-law Doug and Janice Maltbey, and a niece, Kelly.
A Funeral Mass for Sally will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano at 11:00am on Wednesday November 10, 2021, with Fr. Scott Valentyn officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 am until the time of the service. Burial will be in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery following services. Memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic School.
