SHAWANO, WI- Masking will be required for all students, staff, and guests at Shawano Community High School, Middle School, and Hillcrest Primary School starting on Monday.
Superintendent Randi Anderson sent out a notice that they have seen an increase of positive COVID-19 cases in students and staff.
“We have seen noticed increased rates of illness in some of our buildings,” Anderson stated in the notice. “As a result, the safety of our students and staff and the ability to continue face-to-face operations is at risk.”
Masking will be required at the three schools from Monday, September 20 through Friday, October 1. “Masks will be required during the normal school day, 7:45 a.m to 3:30 p.m.
The district is strongly recommending masking at Olga Brener Intermediate School, but it is not being required at this time. “Moving forward, we will continue to re-assess and will communicate mitigation level plans for October 4th and beyond.”
Parents are asked to notify the school if their child is diagnosed with COVID-19 or has had contact with someone that they know has been diagnosed with COVID-19. Parents are also asked to keep their kids home if they are sick, encourage good habits like frequent handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and using face coverings in public. They are also encouraged to get themselves and their children vaccinated as soon as they are able to.
