MENASHA, WI – (Wisconsin Radio Network) – Investigators say the fire that destroyed the abandoned Whiting Paper Mill in Menasha two weeks ago was not caused by an act of nature. They say they are still trying to determine the origin and are following up on several leads. The city of Menasha has declared the former mill a blighted property, but taxpayers may have to pay the cost of its demolition. The city says the owner “has no ability or plans” to secure the site or raze the remaining building. It says no taxes have been paid since 2017, leaving a debt of 700-thousand dollars owed by Danz Real Estate, L-L-C.
