CLINTONVILLE, WI- The 4th of July Fireworks in Clintonville have been canceled.
Clintonville Mayor Richard Beggs says it was a joint decision between the city and the festival organizers, the Clintonville A’s baseball team.
“I met with the committee chairman and it was our shared consensus that the celebration was simply not feasible this July.”
Mayor Beggs says the decision was not made simply because blankets and lawn chairs might not be quite six feet apart.
“The annual fireworks show requires a great deal of preparation and coordination that could not happen because of COVID-19.”
Beggs added that some of the necessary arrangements for the event itself, like food sales and public restrooms are too much of a risk to the public.
The other factor was that the event organizers did not want to ask local businesses for funds when they have been impacted by COVID-19.
“As much as it hurts, neither the City not the A’s could envision a scenario in which we could hold the event.”
