Vera H. Watters, age 93, of New London passed away Friday, March 13, 2020 at her home.
The former Vera Hazel Miller was born on January 24, 1927 in Birnamwood to Paul and Grace (Toping) Miller. She grew up in the Birnamwood / Bowler area. Vera was united in marriage on May 24, 1947 to Nile R. Watters at Peace Lutheran Church in Tilleda. The couple dairy farmed around Northport / New London for some years until settling in the Town of Maple Creek, just outside of Sugar Bush. In the mid 1970’s, Vera and Nile started Watters Logging in New London; and she served as bookkeeper for the business. Her husband Nile preceded her in death on January 30, 2008. Vera always considered her most important job was being a homemaker; she was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother.
Vera was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Sugar Bush. In her early days, she liked bowling on several different leagues. She enjoyed cooking, going fishing, spending time with family, or just relaxing up north at the cottage.
Survivors include three children: Carol Koplin of Bear Creek, Carla Condon of Clintonville, and Gary (Terry) Watters of New London. There are eight grandchildren: Candy (Neal) Peterman, Robby (Tina) Hass, Kelly (Nathan) Schreiber, Christopher Young, Eric (Kate) Watters, Samantha Watters, Brian Postel, and Heaven Postel. There are six great grandchildren: Abbey, Brady and Laney Schreiber; Maverick and Trey Kammer, and Nickolas Peterman. She is further survived by many other relatives and friends.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Nile, a son Royal Watters; two sons-in-law, Gary Condon and Craig Koplin; and two brothers, Reinhart and Iven Miller.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 19th at 1:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church, Sugar Bush. Rev. Kenneth Rodrigue will officiate and burial will be at Floral Hill Cemetery, New London. Visitation will be on Thursday from 11:00 AM until time of service at the church. Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville, is assisting the family.
