GRESHAM, WI – Members of the Menominee Indian tribe are once again fighting to protect the Wolf River.
Last month, Badger Minerals out of Menominee, Michigan presented the Wisconsin DNR with plans to drill near the area where the Exxon Mine was supposed to be.
Tribal members call the area a life source of the Menominee Reservation and its people.
A meeting took place Monday to discuss the plans and ideas for future action.
Tribal efforts were successful as they were able to stop plans for the Exxon Minerals Crandon Mine recently.
If plans go through, the drill program would include up to 10 drill holes with a total drilled footage of up to 4,000 feet.
