NEW LONDON, WI – The New London Bulldogs did something no team has been able to do this year, beat Seymour.
The Thunder suffered their first loss of the season 64-60.
The outcome of this game was much different than the outcome of the first meeting which Seymour won 86-44.
“We had a good game plan and it is hard to put in a game plan after you lose by 44 to a team, but the guys believed in it and we executed it,” said Bulldog Coach Kurt Schommer.
The first half was a back and forth battle and Seymour led by four at the half 33-29
In the second half, Seymour took a nine point lead, but the New London defense stopped Seymour from scoring, allowing the offense to battle back.
“It looked like they were just a bit shaky not used to being down in that moment,” Schommer said. “As soon as we took the lead, you could tell they were uncomfortable and they started to force a little too much, but our guys really dug down on defense.”
New London took a five point lead with about 4 minutes to go, and Seymour’s comeback fell short as New London sealed the win from the free throw line.
“They did not get any clean looks. We had guys rotating and contesting shots. Our defense was outstanding.”
New London was led by Gabe Wholt with 21 points. Garrett Locy scored 20 and the Bulldogs also got 12 from Connor Brinkman and 11 from Sam Porath.
“We said that this game could not be in the 80’s or 90’s for us to win.”
While Seymour still is in the driver’s seat for the Bay Conference title, Schommer says this win will give them confidence for the rest of the season and a memory that will last forever.
“I told them that they will remember this one for a long time and it just feels good to earn victories.”
