KESHENA, WI – Menominee County Highway Department is offering free sand for residents to use on their driveways and sidewalks.
County Highway Commissioner Jeremy Weso says they have a few different pile locations.
“All of them are subject to the same restriction, one five gallon bucket per day and as those piles diminish, we will replenish them as need be.”
He says locations include a pile by the Highway Department in Keshena, by Ponfills on Highway 47 in Neopit, by the Zoar Ceremonial Building and by the South Branch Community Center.
The sand is mixed with salt and it is something that the county has been doing for quite a few winters, but Weso says there are still a lot of people who do not know that it is an option.
“We have been doing this every year for the last four or five years,” he says. “Probably about 20 times a day you will see cars drive up with their one bucket.”
Weso says the goal is to keep adding more sand if it starts to run out.
