GREEN BAY, WI (Wisconsin Radio Network) – An unexpected call to the Brown County Dispatch Center on Sunday afternoon led to the rescue of a woman being held against here will more than 2,000 miles away.
“We have a US Citizen who has been held captive in the Dominican Republic”
The woman was able to use a phone app on Sunday, to reach the Brown County Dispatch Center.
“I met him online a while ago and I have been staying here, but yesterday he locked me in the house with a chain so I could not get out,” the woman calmly told dispatch.
The dispatcher asked the woman if she was being abused, and the woman was heard on the call explaining that he choked her. The dispatcher also asked if she knew the address that she was at, and the woman replied, ” I am afraid I don’t.”
Hours later, US officials found the woman, who said she was from Green Bay.
She told dispatchers she’d met her captor online. It’s not known when she’ll be repatriated to the US.
