Richard E. “Coon” Schanandore, age 77 of Keshena, started his journey to the Spirit World on Monday, December 2, 2019 in Keshena.
Coon was born January 16, 1942 in Keshena, a son of the late Elmer and Doris (Chevalier) Schanandore. He attended the St. Joseph Catholic Grade School, and later Shawano High School. Richard served his country in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Korea while serving in the Korean War. He was united in marriage to the former Jeannie Sickler at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Neopit. Jeannie preceded him in death twenty years ago. Richard was employed as an independent woodsman and construction worker. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fitness walker. Coon will be remembered as a quiet and humble man.
Survivors include his daughter, Odelia Schanandore of Black River Falls; three brothers, Dewey Schanandore of Green Bay, Russell J. Schanandore of Green Bay, Charles (Linda) Schanandore of Milwaukee; five sisters, Doris Isaac of Green Bay, LaVonne Schanandore of Seymour, Roseanna (Moose Hawpetoss) Schanandore of Middle Village, Mary (Alex, Jr.) Menore of Neopit, and Sharon Skenandore of Milwaukee; numerous nieces and nephews, including Gary Grignon, Toni Vermillion, Katherine Vermillion, Nicole Smith, Kristin Montoyer, Beth (Ron) Waukau, Mirac (Margaret Rose) Ellis, Patricia Schanandore, Cheequah Schanandore, Sr., John (Jennifer) Barnes, Rebecca (Ron) Cornelius, Olivia (Tom) Blain, Joseph (Sharon) Sullivan, Katinee Menore, Thomas Menore Sr., Doris Menore, Tara Menore, Hutsa Webster, Shawanaka (Rafael) Figueroa, James Schanandore, RaeAnn Waubanascum, Traci Wescott, and Allie Schanandore.
A traditional Omaneqnomenewak Service will be conducted on Friday, December 6, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until 11:00 AM. Military Honors will be conducted by the Veterans of the Menominee Nation at the funeral home.
