A Texas-based industrial sand mining company says there is an oversupply of its product and users have switched to locally-produced sand in Texas and New Mexico. That is why Hi-Crush Incorporated announced last week it was devaluing its Wisconsin mines in August and Whitehall by more than 215-million dollars. Those are the latest blows to Wisconsin’s stuttering frack sand industry. The August mine has been idle all year and production was cut back at Whitehall. Financial experts say Hi-Crush made the moves because the mines aren’t worth what they paid for them in the first place.
