Administrators in Wisconsin’s smaller school districts say they had a real challenge filling all of their vacant teaching positions this summer. Wabeno School District Administrator Jeff Walsh says he had one position at the elementary school posted for two months — with no applicants. Laona School District filled a position just days before the fall term started. One of the biggest problems is fewer college students are going into the teaching profession. Districts already struggling with finances have had to find ways to increase their teacher compensation packages.
