Nate Michonski and Trent Nolan brought the Shawano Speedway crowd to their feet as the two racers traded paint in the race to the checkered flag in the IMCA Stock Car feature. Michonski prevailed for his first win of the year. Joel Bennett held off Nick Anvelink to pick up his first feature win in nearly a year. Racin Jason Czarapata notched his second IMCA Modified feature win. Rookie Jeffery Teske won his second IMCA Sport Mod feature. While, Tim Stueck scored his first career Mighty Four feature win. Lucas Hacker also wrapped up his first ever track championship n the Mighty Four class.
Brett Swedberg shot into the lead of the Late Model feature and quickly set sail as he pulled away from the pack. With Swedberg leading, Joel Bennett chased him in second. Further back in the field, title contenders Nick Anvelink, Ron Berna, and Troy Springborn battled amongst one another. As fast as Swedberg had been though a broken driveshaft ended his night on lap 13. Joel Bennett then took over as the leader. Bennett had his hands full as Anvelink challenged for the lead. Late in the race Berna and Springborn had issues that brought their nights to an end. Bennett and Anvelink would go door to door over the final three laps, but Bennett would not be denied his first win of the year. Anvelink, Chris Engels, Derek Janke, and Kyle Raddant rounded out the top five. Anvelink will enter the final point night with a nine point lead over Springborn and an eleven point lead on Berna.
Chaotic would be one word to describe the IMCA Modified feature. Tyler Wilson took the lead at the start of the race and was pursued early by Brandon Krueger. As Wilson led, Konnor Wiliinski, Lucas Lamberies, and Wyatt Block began to charge through the field. Wilinski, the point leader entering the night. tagged the wall on a lap four restart ending his night. Soon Block had mechanical gremlins end his night as well. Wilson though continued to lead as now Lance Arneson, Jason Czarapata, and Marcus Yarie began to march forward. Lamberies moved to second on lap 7. Wilson and Lamberies then began to slug it out for the lead. The two drivers went door to door on many occasions. On lap 11 Lamberies tried the slide job on Wilson for the lead but the two cars got hooked together after contact ending the night for both of them. The caution plagued event went back to green with Jason Czarapata leading the race. Czarapata held off Arneson and Yarie for the remainder of the race for the win. Arneson, Yarie, Mark Weisnicht, and Jerry Wilinski completed the top five. Arneson will enter next weeks race as the point leader with a one point edge over Jerry Wilinski, two points on Mark Weisnicht, and ten points on Konnor Wilinski.
The IMCA Stock Car feature started with a four-wide battle to lead lap 1 with Vern Stedjee ahead of the pack by a bumper. The four-wide battle continued on lap 2, but this time it was Tom Riehl leading the way. On lap 3 Trent Nolan took his car to the front of the pack. On lap 5 “Nitro” Nate Michonski moved to second and the lead duo began to pull away a bit from the rest of the field as Riehl, Dan Michonski and Travis VanStraten fought over the third place on the track. Laps continued to tick away with Nolan showing the way and Nate Michonski glued to his rear bumper. On lap 17 Michonski pulled to the inside of Nolan and led by the slightest of margins at the start finish line. Nolan tried to return the favor on lap 18 as he went to the inside of Nolan, but to no avail. Not giving up the chase, Nolan pulled alongside Michonski again on the final lap. The two made contact exiting turn four and rubbed on one another down the front stretch to the checkered flag. The crowd rose to its feet as Nate Michonski won by a nose over Nolan. Travis VanStraten, Dan Michonski, and Jeremy Christians completed the top five. Entering next weeks final night VanStraten holds a slim three point lead over Dan Michonski. VanStraten is looking for an unprecedented sixth consecutive title in the division. Michonski, the 2012 track champion, is looking for his second title.
Dylan Mueller took the lead at the start of the IMCA Sport Mod feature before Jeffery Teske took the lead away on lap three. Teske began to steadily pull away from the rest of the field and would go on to score his second win of the year. Bryce Clements made a late race charge to second. Brock Saunders, Kevin Bethke, and Jordan Bartz finished third through fifth. Jordan Bartz will be looking for her first track championship next Saturday entering the night with a thirteen point lead over Teagan Wudstrack.
In Mighty Four action Tim Stueck led wire to wire in a caution-free event. Jason Cornelius, Jason Stueck, Dalton Nelson, and Tanner Westphal rounded out the top five. Lucas Hacker finished the race in seventh which was good enough to wrap up his first career track championship as this was the final point night for the division.
Racing will conclude next Saturday night. The final night takes place during the Shawano County Fair. Racing will start at 6:00. The final four track champions will be crowned. The Mighty Four division will race on next Sunday for money only. The Sharon Blanke memorial will pay $945 to the winner.
