
Vera E. Engel, age 67, of Marion passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Appleton.
The former Vera Elizabeth Babino was born on February 2, 1952 in Clintonville to Herman and Vera (Jepson) Babino. She went on to graduating from West De Pere High School. Vera was united in marriage on December 2, 1971 to Gerald L. Engel at an Air Force Base in Oklahoma. While Gerald served in the military the couple lived in lots of different places. In 1991 they returned to the area living in Bear Creek and by the early 2000’s settled in Clintonville. In her early days, she helped out in her high school cafeteria and also worked as a cook for some time at a diner in Wisconsin Dells. Then Vera was employed as a dietary aid for many years at Manawa Nursing Home. When her children were grade school age, she also volunteered in their school office. Her husband Gerald preceded her in death on September 26, 2007.
Vera was a longtime member of Christus Lutheran Church, Clintonville. She liked serving with the Vacation Bible School program helping with craft projects. Vera also volunteered many summers with the Keller’s Lake Day Camp. She often babysat for friends and family. Her other interests included fishing, camping, bowling, cooking, baking, knitting, plastic canvas, and crocheting. Vera was excellent at cross-stitching and sewing, especially making quilts and pillows. She enjoyed the trips to the Milwaukee County Zoo; and always loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include two children; Robert (Brenda) Engel of Clintonville and Angela Engel of Marion. There are fifteen grandchildren: James, Trisha, Erica, Philip Jr., Tristan, Sarah, Michelle, Daniel, Shawn, John, Marcus (Korina), Zach, Justin, Levi, and Samuel; and one great granddaughter, Crystalynn. There are three brothers, Frank Babino of Shiocton, Mark Babino of Texas, and Tom Babino of Clintonville. She is further survived by six sisters, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Vera is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Philip, a sister-in-law Patsy Babino; and four brothers Herman, Jim, Sylvester, and George Babino.
Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 25th at 1:00 PM at Christus Lutheran Church, Clintonville, with Rev. Brian Crocker officiating. Inurnment will be at Graceland Cemetery, Clintonville. Visitation will be on Sunday from 12:00 Noon until time of service at the church. Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville, is assisting the family.
