
On July 19, 2019 at approximately 9:17 pm, the Oconto County Emergency Dispatch Center received a 911 call involving a 67 year old male who was injured while trying to remove a fallen tree. The incident occurred on Sunset Lane in the Town of Townsend in Oconto County, Wisconsin.
67 year old John Nichols was attempting to remove a fallen tree with a chain attached to a four-wheeler. The chain broke causing the tree to break free. The tree struck the male in the head causing serious head trauma. Lakewood-Townsend Ambulance Service responded and transported the injured male to a hospital in Rhinelander. The injured male succumbed to his injuries on July 20, 2019.
A second individual was also injured during the same incident. The second individual was identified as a 39 year old male. The second individual injured received serious eye and facial injuries. Laona Rescue Services responded and transported the second injured individual to a hospital in Rhinelander.
On July 20, 2019, the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office responded to Maiden Lake Road in the Town of Riverview for a 70 year old male injured while cutting a tree. The individual sustained a serious leg injury. The individual was transported was transported by Mountain Ambulance Service to a Green Bay hospital.
