With the bulk of the dam repairs complete, the City has begun refilling the lake and anticipates this process will be complete on July 1st. We have received notification from the DNR that they will be lifting the fishing restrictions on July 3rd, which means the City will begin issuing boat ramp passes at that time as well. However, boaters should be aware that the City has been dealing with a significant number of logs, some quite large, that have surfaced during the refill and been carried down the river to the dam. These logs may pose a hazard to boaters and others involved in water recreation. The City is actively removing these logs from the area of the dam gates. While we have seen a gradual decrease in number, there may still be some logs being carried by the current when the lake reopens next Wednesday.
The DNR will also be stocking large fingerlings of Northern Pike and Largemouth Bass later this summer/fall. They will perform an electrofishing survey this fall and again next spring, the results of which will guide future stocking and survey efforts as it pertains to the recovery of fishery in the Pigeon Lake.
