She was born on July 20, 1932, to the late George and Mary (Rosenow) Maltbey in Shawano. Donna attended and graduated from Shawano High School. She was united in marriage to Vernon Heling on February 4, 1956 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine.
Donna was a long-time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She was proud to say that she helped out at the fireman’s stand at the Shawano County Fair Grounds for over 40 years. She also did her part working around the Heling family homestead which originated at its current location in 1883. Her claim to fame, however, was her cooking. Her homemade bread and poppy seed torte were just a few of the baked goods she was known for. In her free time, Donna enjoyed playing bingo and cards. Above all else, she loved having her family and friends around.
Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Virgil Heling, Mark (Sandy) Heling, Patty (Bullet) Bohm, all of Shawano, and Mitch (Carol) Heling of DePere; her grandchildren, Amanda (Mike) Schroeder, Luke Heling, Samantha (Jesse) Kauffman, Taylor Bohm, Maggie Bohm, Brandon Heling, Mallory Heling, and JC Heling; her great-grandchildren, Anabelle, Wyatt, Clayton, Owen, and Mason; her twin sisters, Doris Otto and Delores Fischer, who may as well have been triplets for how close they were; her sister-in-law, Jan Maltbey; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; her son, Dohn (Jenny) Heling; her brothers, Reggie, Mike, and Lyle Maltbey, and Merlin Rosenow; and her brothers-in-law, Ted Otto and Don Fischer.
