
The Shawano Optimist Club plans to hold their annual Bike Rodeo Skills event Saturday May 11 at Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano. A change to the event this year is the Shawano Optimist Club is not only giving away free bike helmets and trophies to the top kids in each grade category but they have increased the number of bikes to be given away from two bikes to six bikes. Kids in Kindergarten through 6th Grade go through a variety of courses such as the figure 8, balancing at slow speed, Stopping on a line, weaving, straight line riding, and coasting. The children in each category, with the best score win a trophy and the person with best overall score wins a grand champion trophy. There will be free bike licensing courtesy of the Shawano Police Department, also free bike maintenance and safety checks before going through the course. Thanks to Theda Care and other community donations the Shawano Optimist Club will be providing Bike Helmets, door prizes, and additional bikes. The event is Saturday May 11th 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with awards following at the Zion Lutheran Church Parking lot. Prize Winners do not need to be present; members of the Shawano Optimist Club will deliver the prizes.
