Residents in the Shawano school district will be getting a survey this fall, asking for input regarding a new rec center in Shawano. The district wide survey would help determine if there is enough interest to go to a referendum. The new rec center would be run by the Shawano School District and the city of Shawano. It’s been emphasized that city rec center staff would not become school district employees. The price tag for the proposed joint city and school district recreation center is estimated to be $24 million to $28 million. For security reasons, the building would be designed to ensure the public can’t enter the high school.
