Recall petitions were submitted to the Merrill City Clerk Tuesday afternoon targeting five members of the City Council. People who live in Merrill are angry because the council passed a budget without verifying the mathematics. That led to a tax increase of seven-point-four percent when residents were expecting less than half of that, three percent. It’s been called an accounting error. The recall petitions name council president Rob Norton and members Tim Meehan, Paul Russell, Dave Sukow and John Van Lieshout.
