
Shawano Area Writers plans to award a scholarship to a graduating high school senior from Shawano or Menominee County who intends to pursue a degree, preferably writing-related (Journalism, Creative Writing, English, etc.), from an accredited post-secondary institution. The scholarship will provide $1,000, non-renewable, to be applied to tuition, fees, room and board, books and other college expenses. Deadline for applications is midnight, May 19, 2019. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior (public, private, or home schooled), reside in Shawano or Menominee County, pursue a post-secondary degree the upcoming fall semester, and complete the application process, including the writing sample. Application forms can be downloaded from shawanoareawriters.org. Applicants must submit a completed form (including the name and signature of a teacher or parent who confirms the student meets the criteria above), and a writing sample (500 words minimum, 1,000 words maximum) responding to the following prompts: What inspires you to improve your writing skills? OR What life goals will you be able to achieve by being a writer? Essays will be judged by Shawano Area Writers with the winner notified before June 30.
