The head of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says someone thinks it is more important to allow baiting and feeding of deer than it is to try to slow the spread of chronic wasting disease. D-N-R Secretary Preston Cole questions why the practice is still allowed in Wisconsin while the disease is still spreading. Scientists think baiting and feeding encourage deer to congregate over the food left for them, leading to the spread of the disease. State law bans the practice in infected counties for 36 months and in neighboring counties for 24 months.
