Register online by April 15 to receive an event shirt.
New London, Wisconsin – The 2019 Sturgeon Shuffle is set to take place on Saturday, April 27, at New London Middle School. Event organizers are seeing a significant increase in registrations over this same time period last year.
“Early registrations are up more than 300%,” said Sturgeon Shuffle committee member, Brenda Hansen. “Historically the majority of participants have signed up for the races during the first couple of weeks of April, so we really are excited to see if this trend continues.”
Anyone interested in running or walking the events can register at www.sturgeonshuffle.com. Entry fees for the Sturgeon Shuffle 5K and 10K races are $25 per person. Youth age 14 and under enjoy a discounted entry fee of $15. Participants who register by April 15 are guaranteed to receive an event t-shirt with their registration. A new hooded sweatshirt option (adult sizes only) is available with a registration fee of $40. “While online registration continues through Thursday, April 25, we will not have many extra t-shirts available this year,” says Hansen. “If a shirt is desired, we strongly recommend signing up by April 15.” In-person registration at the event is $5 extra.
Friday’s early packet pick up and in-person registration will be held for the first time at First State Bank’s New London office at 113 W. North Water Street. Participants can also pick up their race packet and register in-person at the New London Middle School on the day of the Shuffle from 8:00 am to 9:15 am. The 10K race starts at 9:30 am with the 5K event to follow at approximately 9:40 am.
The 10K race is a competitive road run that winds through scenic Hatten Park before exiting onto County X, which parallels the beautiful Wolf River. The return portion of the 10K course takes runners along the Sturgeon Trail (a paved trail) during the time of the year that historically sees the unique “running” of the Sturgeon. The 5K course takes runners and walkers through New London’s Hatten Park. Both events are chip-timed.
The top three finishers in both the 5K and 10K events, in each gender and age division will receive an award. Age divisions are 7 and under, 8 to 11, 12 to 14, 15 to 18, 19 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and age 70 and up.
Proceeds raised from this year’s Sturgeon Shuffle benefit Project Backpack in New London; Project Backpack Waupaca, which serves the Waupaca, Manawa, Weyauwega-Fremont, Iola-Scandinavia, and Amherst school districts; and Rapids Family Backpacks, which serves the Wisconsin Rapids School District including the community of Rudolph.
The Sturgeon Shuffle is presented by First State Bank and supported by nearly 40 business sponsors throughout the region. Complete event details can be found at www.sturgeonshuffle.com, or call (920) 429-4229 or email sturgeonshuffle@bankfirststate.com for more information.
