
Shirley E. Miller, age 86, of Clintonville passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Greentree Health & Rehabilitation Center, Clintonville.
The former Shirley Edith Sturm was born on April 7, 1932 in the Town of Little Wolf, Waupaca County, to Richard and Amelia (Hertzfeld) Sturm. Shirley graduated from Little Wolf High School in 1950. While in school she was active in the Library Club and the Future Homemakers of America. In her graduation book she wrote that her goal in life was to be a “good wife”. In her early years, she was a popcorn girl at the Manawa Theater and a secretary at AAL in Appleton. Shirley was united in marriage on July 7, 1951 to Carlton E. Miller at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Manawa. They dairy farmed on County Road O in the Town of Union, Waupaca County. The couple was blessed with four children; she liked being a homemaker and helping on the farm. Her husband preceded her in death on December 17, 1988.
In her early years, Shirley was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Manawa. Currently she is a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Symco, and actively served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She always grew lots of vegetables in her garden and canned as much as she could. Shirley was an avid reader, liked doing cross stitch, going for car rides, and completing jig saw and crossword puzzles. She will be remembered most as a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother.
Survivors include four children; Timothy (Kim) Miller of Stevens Point, Susan (Fred) Zimmerman of Brookfield, Daniel Miller on the family farm, and Deborah (Todd) Lillge of Appleton. There are 8 grandchildren; Kerri (Tod) Wederath, Stacey (Scott) Eggleston, Jacki (Dan) Kuehn, Wendi (Bob) Vanderweg, Megan (Justin) Turner, Mandi (Eric) Kragh, Julie (Scott) Puls, and Phillip (Kim) Lillge. There are 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. There is one sister Ruth Ferg, one brother David Sturm, and a sister-in-law Glendore Walker. She is further survived by many other relatives and friends.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Carlton, an infant brother, a sister Irma (Frank) Waltman, a brother Robert (Mildred) Sturm, a sister-in-law Ruth Sturm, and two brothers-in-law Gene Ferg and Chancey Walker.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 27th at 11:00 AM at Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville. Hospice Chaplain Matthew Cornelius will officiate and burial will be at Union Cemetery, Symco. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established at a later date.
We want to thank all the nurses and staff at Greentree and Compassus Hospice for the compassionate and wonderful care given to Mom. We also wish to especially thank a special caregiver Lori for all the love provided to Mom the past few years.
