Bail is set a one-million dollars for an 82-year-old man accused of a double murder in 1976 in Marinette County. Eighty-two-year-old Raymond Vannieuwenhoven (VAN’-ew-in-HOH’-vin) made a video court appearance Friday on two counts of first-degree murder in the killings of 25-year-old David Schuldes and 24-year-old Ellen Matheys more than four decades ago. He’s also charged with first-degree sexual assault and investigators say advances in D-N-A technology helped connect Vannieuwenhoven to the shorts Matheys was wearing that day. The criminal complaint does not reveal a possible motive for the alleged murders in McClintock Park. The judge said Vannieuwenhoven doesn’t qualify for a public defender. His next court hearing is April 30th.
