New D-N-A technology is being credited for an arrest in a 43-year-old cold case double murder in northeast Wisconsin. Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Suave (SOO’-vay) says 82-year-old Raymond Vannieuwenhoven (VAN’-ew-in-hoh-vin) was arrested Thursday in the 1976 deaths of David Schuldes and Ellen Matheys.
Sheriff Suave:
Suave says they finally obtained a D-N-A sample from the suspect and with the help of Parabon genetic engineering determined it to be Vannieuwenhoven. The sheriff says he did not seem surprised when he was arrested in Lakewood. Suave says they’re working with the district attorney on the case and there’s still a lot of investigation to go.
