Efforts to curtail “lunch shaming” is becoming a mission for Gary Tauchen (R-Bonduel) He is leading the charge for Wisconsin by looking for co-sponsors for the Hungry Free School Zone Act would impose what he called “minimal” requirements to school lunch and breakfast programs. Among other things, the bill would prohibit schools from publicly identifying and stigmatizing any students who are unable to pay for a quality meal or who have outstanding debt. Tauchen said he has found several colleagues in the Wisconsin Legislature on both sides of the aisle but is still looking for more. The bill has not yet been scheduled for committees to review.
