A former Townsend man who pointed a handgun at an Oconto County deputy at a gathering last spring has been sentenced to nine months in jail. The jail term was the maximum Richard A. Steldt, 38, could have received for possessing a firearm while intoxicated. Steldt now of Antigo was charged with felony counts of second degree recklessly endangering safety-use of a dangerous weapon and intentionally point firearm at law enforcement officer and misdemeanor charges of possession of a firearm while intoxicated, resisting an officer, criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct. Steldt told Judge he was depressed and acted stupidly. Judge said the nine-month jail term was justified, on criminal damage and resisting charges, Judge granted Steldt two years probation after withholding sentence.
