An Illinois man was convicted Tuesday for the drunk driving crash which killed his friend. Guy Maras, 55, pleaded guilty to homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle for the July 29 crash in Underhill which killed Joseph Gallagher. He will be sentenced April 12. Gallagher, 54, was a passenger in Maras’ car when it crashed into a tree stump in the town of Underhill. Officials said that the vehicle was going north on Klatt Road past the intersection of County Hwy. V, at 100 mph when it went off the road and then hit the tree stump. Maras’ blood alcohol level was .169, more than twice the limit of .08. He made several statements how he killed his friend and it was because of his alcoholism, according to the complaint.
