Leon E. Polzin, age 70 of Cecil, passed away at his home on Friday morning, January 25, 2019 with his wife at his side.
Leon was born on April 21, 1948 in Shawano, a son of the late Ervin and Leona (Reimer) Polzin. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School in White Clay Lake through 8th grade. He then went to Bonduel High School, graduating in 1966. Following high school, Leon attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison to study engineering. After one year at school, he realized that his love for farming was greater than his love for engineering, and he returned to the family farm.
On October 25, 1975, Leon was united in marriage to the former Deborah Letter at Immanuel Lutheran Church White Clay Lake. Leon and Deborah lived and farmed at Polzin White Clay Lake Farms, in the Town of Washington, which was named a Centennial Farm in 2006, their entire marriage. The couple shared 43 years of loving marriage and were blessed with four children.
Leon was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church White Clay Lake, where he served his congregation willingly in numerous positions, including Church Sexton for 20 years. Leon enjoyed watching his grandson, Jacob, play baseball, playing Monopoly with August, and putting puzzles together with Adalin. He also enjoyed spending time in the field driving his Case IH tractors. In 2009, Leon took the trip of a lifetime to visit Germany with his son, Brian. He loved watching the Milwaukee Brewers, and playing with his beloved St. Bernard, Penelope.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah; four children, Brent (Sara) of Shawano, Karin (Ryan) Bogenschneider of Elm Grove, Brian (Katie Reuter) of Milwaukee, and Katie (Rick Cottrill) of New Berlin; and three grandchildren, Jacob Polzin, and Adalin and August Bogenschneider. He is further survived by four sisters, Ruth (David) Rynish of Oneida, Carol (Les) Yeager of Green Bay, Joyce Jeske of Bonduel, and Faye (Donald) Sorenson of Waupaca; his mother-in-law, Bernice Letter of Green Bay; five sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Roger) DeGuelle of Green Bay, Diane (Kevin) Van Lannen of Seymour, Carol (Craig) Paap of Gillett, Rita (Donald) Skalecki of Pulaski, and Doris (Steve) Jarosz of Green Bay; his brother-in-law, Gary Lasecki of Lena; his dear, devoted family friends, Jim and Jean Bleick; his devoted companion, Penelope; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Leona Polzin; his brother-in-law, Dale Jeske; father-in-law, James Letter; and sister-in-law, Ruth Lasecki.
Funeral services for Leon E. Polzin will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church White Clay Lake. Pastor Steven Pockat will officiate. Burial will take place in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Friday, February 1, 2019 at the church from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and will resume on Saturday at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers and plants, the family requests donations be made to the St. James Lutheran Church Broadcast, Immanuel Lutheran Church White Clay Lake, or Good Shepherd Lutheran School in West Allis.
