
Bernard “Barney” Jelinski Jr., age 83, of Tigerton passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019 at The Pines Post-Acute and Memory Care, Clintonville.
Bernard Andrew Jelinski was born on January 12, 1936 in Galloway, Marathon County, Wisconsin, to Bernard and Susie (Lysinski) Jelinski Sr. He grew up and attended school in Galloway. Barney entered the U.S. Army and served from 1954 – 1956 during the Korean War. He was united in marriage on October 20, 1962 to Lillian Secker at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Tigerton. Barney was employed as a sawyer for many years at Boldig Lumber Company in Bowler. Barney’s wife preceded him in death on June 10, 2000.
Barney was a longtime member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Tigerton, where he volunteered as an usher. He was also a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Barney was a proud member of the American Legion Post #239 of Tigerton. He enjoyed marching in parades, helping with military honors, and working on countless other projects. Barney will be remembered most as a kind, humble, sweet man who was devoted to his family and his faith.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Green of Taylor, WI, and Gregory (Llena) Green of Fayetteville, NC. There are six grandchildren: Jack, Teresa, Bobbi, Mary, Michael Jr., and Steven. There are three great granddaughters, five great grandsons, two great-great granddaughters, and two great-great grandsons. He is further survived by a sister, Sylvia Cotter of Tigerton; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Barney is preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Marlene Tillman, Jenny Payne, Dorothy Kennedy, and Evelyn Severson; and two brothers, Chester and Leonard Jelinski.
Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 21, 2019 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Tigerton, with Fr. Matthew Settle officiating. Military Honors will be provided at the church by members of the American Legion Post #239. Inurnment will follow at Union Cemetery, Tigerton. Visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church. Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Tigerton, is assisting with the arrangements.
