William F. “Will” Krueger, age 88 of Shawano, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 in Shawano. William was born on February 6, 1930 in Shawano, son of the late Frank A. and Ottilie (Schutt) Krueger. Will graduated from Shawano High School and went on to college at Valparaiso University in Indiana. On December 28, 1950 he enlisted in the United States Navy after one year of college. He served his country proudly as a corpsman alongside his brother Archie, on a naval ship until being honorably discharged on October 19, 1954, at which time he returned to Valparaiso to complete his education. William was united in marriage to the love of his life, Sharon Mae Brunner on July 20, 1957 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano; they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this past summer. Sharon preceded William in death on July 30, 2018. Will worked for American Can for 31 years, moving from Cincinnati, Ohio to Arlington Heights, Illinois to Burnsville, Minnesota and to Appleton, Wisconsin retiring in 1990 at which time he returned to Shawano. He had a love and appreciation for nature and enjoyed fishing, especially fly fishing, as well as bird hunting and spending time on Shawano Lake with friends and family (always with a cold beer). He enjoyed playing cards, woodworking, playing tennis, and was an avid sports fan always cheering for the Packers. Will was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Shawano Club and the Shawano V.F.W. He will be lovingly remembered as the rock of our family always giving unconditional support, guidance, and love. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
William is survived by: six daughters, Kelly (Jim) Carlstrom of Shawano, Kris (Bob) Kuhn of Shawano, Kerri (Don) Otte of Shawano, Kate (Jim) Garvey of Shawano, Kim (Jeff) Dehn of Neenah and Kori (Mike) Stupecky of Shawano; grandchildren, Alison (Trevor) Grunwald, Lacey (Sean Erhardt) Carlstrom, Mary (Matt) Rau, Amy (Ryan) Kubly, Leah (Brad) Miller, Rachel (Mike) Hoffman, Ashley (Kelly) Goldsborough, Caroline Dehn, Anthony “AJ” Dehn, Michael (Heather Patt) Stupecky and Sam Stupecky; great-grandchildren, McKenna, Lyla, Klara, Mae, Jack, McLane, McCoy, Karagan, Nash, Hannah, Keagan, and Weston.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon, his parents, his sister, Donna Andrews and two brothers, Frank and Orval “Archie”.
A memorial service for William will be held at noon on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with Fr. Tom Farrell officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Shawano V.F. W. Post #2723. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Old Glory Honor Flight program.
