A 39-year-old father from Loyal, Wisconsin and three children ages three, six and nine are the victims of a deadly kayak accident off the Apostle Islands on Lake Superior. The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as Erik Fryman and his 29-year-old wife Cari Mews as the lone survivor. The family was touring the islands Thursday night when their boat capsized west of Michigan Island. Mews became separated and was located in the water around 10 P-M. Fryman and two of the kids were found early Friday and the third child was recovered around 10 A-M. All five were wearing life jackets. They were in the water just before storms moved in. Authorities launched a search after Mews’ sister reported receiving alarming text messages reading “9-1-1” and “Michigan Island.” The incident is still being investigated by the Ashland and Bayfield county sheriff’s and coroner’s offices.
