Fifty local law enforcement officers in Oconto County now have gear that offers protection from long guns, thanks to donations from businesses, organizations and individuals. The members of the Oconto County Law Enforcement Executive Group, the heads of the police departments and sheriff’s office in the county said last week they were deeply grateful for the contributions that allowed for the purchase of the vests and helmets. The duty vest officers normally wear protects from handguns but won’t stop shots fired from rifles or shotguns. At nearly $1,000 per set, the equipment is often too expensive for small departments.
