A trial has been scheduled for a Lena man accused of attempting to kill his ex-girlfriend and firing shots at four deputies during a lengthy standoff in March. Thomas S. Benser, who pleaded not guilty in May, will be tried October 17-19 before Judge Michael T. Judge. The former girlfriend told investigators that on March 10th Benser woke her up at her home and began arguing with her. When she asked him to leave, he began choking her. When officers arrived Benser opened a window and fired four to five shots at deputies threatening to kill them all. Benser was later arrested thanks to help to a SWAT team. Benser is being held in Oconto County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond.
