The Shawano Health Department advises everyone to take care to avoid tick and mosquito bites while enjoying the summer weather. Ticks and Mosquitos can transmit illnesses like Lyme Disease and West Nile. There were just under 4,300 cases of Lyme Disease in Wisconsin last year which is the most its ever had. There were 51 cases of West Nile last year in Wisconsin which is the most since 2012. Here are some things that can help protect you, wear light colored long sleeve shirts and pants, use EPA approved repellent and apply accordingly, check for and safely remove ticks from family and pets and lastly take steps to control mosquitos and ticks outside your home.
