Today at 12:45 p.m. Governor Walker will award a broadband grant to the city of Oconto Falls. This event will be taking place at the Oconto Falls City Hall. The purpose of the Broadband Expansion Grant Program is to encourage the deployment of advanced telecommunications capability in underserved areas of the state. In the recent 2018 report on deployment of broadband service, the Federal Communications Commission found that broadband deployment in Wisconsin was below the national average. 13.7% of the population in Wisconsin lack access to at least on broadband service compared to the national average of 7.7%. 43.1% of Wisconsin residents living in rural census blocks lack access to at least one broadband service, compared to the national average of 30.7%.
