The pilot and two crewmen who died when the Ascension Spirit medical helicopter crashed late Thursday were remembered Saturday as “three great members of the emergency medical services community.” The victims were identified as Gregory Rosenthal, 43, of Mosinee; Rico Caruso, 34, of Hazelhurst; and Klint Mitchell, 30, of Watersmeet, Michigan. The helicopter was jointly operated by Ascension Wisconsin and Air Methods Corp. The men were flying to the helicopter’s home base at Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff when the aircraft went down. They were returning after transporting a patient to Madison. The Howard Young Foundation will collect donations through its Helping Hands fund for the benefit of the families affected by the Ascension Spirit crash.
