The voting at the annual spring Conservation Congress meetings is only advisory, but if the DNR follows the voters wishes, the walleye bag limit on the Lake Winnebago system would be reduced. A question at the statewide meetings asked if the daily limit on the system should be reduced from 5 to 3. The overwhelming statewide answer was “yes”, by a margin of 3366 to 1816. In Waupaca and Shawano Counties, the vote was “no” and in Winnebago and Outagamie Counties, the vote was “yes”. Combined, the four counties voted in favor of the walleye bag limit reduction, by a vote of 291 to 262.
