Reiko Hobscheid, nee Masuda, age 91, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2018 at her home at The Cottages in Shawano, with her family around her.
Reiko was born June 17, 1926 in Hokkaido, Japan. In 1956 she married Harry F. Hobscheid in Japan, while he was serving in the U.S. Army. The couple had three children, and lived in Chicago, and U.S. Army bases in Hawaii and Alabama before settling in Franklin Park, Illinois for 31 years. They moved to Shawano in 2000. Harry preceded her in death in 2005. Reiko was known for her smile and generosity to all who had the pleasure to know her.
Survivors include her children, Henry (Donna) Hobscheid, Alan (Ellen Holtzblatt) Hobscheid, and Anita (Tim) Schmalz; and her grandchildren, Maya (fiancé Jeb Boyer) and Hana (special friend Adam Schaff).
A visitation for Reiko will take place on Friday, April 13, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano. A second visitation will be held in Illinois later this month with inurnment to take place at Mount Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst, Illinois. In lieu of flowers and plants, the family requests memorials be made in Reiko’s name to the Shawano County Humane Society or to Shawano Cares About Critters.
