Hildegarde J. Bartz, age 100 of the Town of Belle Plaine, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2018 in Shawano following a brief illness.
Hildegarde was born November 27, 1917 in the Town of DuPont, Waupaca County, Wisconsin, a daughter of the late William and Mary (Bork) Mehlberg. She attended country schools. On October 25, 1941 she was united in marriage to Elmer Bartz at St. Paul Lutheran Church in the Town of DuPont. The couple made their home on the Bartz family homestead in the Town of Belle Plaine, where they lived and farmed. Mr. Bartz preceded her in death in September of 1991.
Hildegarde is a lifelong member of St. Martin Lutheran Church – Belle Plaine. She had the distinction of being the oldest living member of the church at the time of her death. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and baking.
Survivors include her children, Opal (Richard) Sawall of Clintonville, and Alvin (Nancy) Bartz of the Town of Belle Plaine; her grandchildren, Blair (Kathy) Sawall of Clintonville, Steven (Paul Carpenter) Bartz of Seattle, WA, James (Beth) Bartz of Shawano, and Stacey Bartz of Green Bay; her great-grandchildren, Zachary (Sandra) Sawall, Brett (Kristen) Sawall, Tyler and Kristi Sawall, Adam and Brad Bartz, and Ryan, Briana, and Allison Bartz; two great-great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Timothy Sawall; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandsons, Jeffrey Sawall and Michael Bartz; three brothers, and one sister.
A funeral service for Hildegarde J. Bartz will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 11:30 AM at St. Martin Lutheran Church – Belle Plaine. Pastor Kurt Kluge will officiate. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will begin on Saturday at 9:30 and continue until the hour of service. A memorial fund has been established in Hildegarde’s name for St. Martin Lutheran Church – Belle Plaine.
