Oconto County Sheriff Mike Jansen has announced his plans to retire. Jansen will not be seeking re-election in the fall, instead he will be supporting his current Chief Deputy Ed Janke as to take over as his successor. Jansen is in his fourth term as sheriff and he has served as a law enforcement officer for 41 years.
The sheriff said he feels fulfilled seeing the completion of the new Law Enforcement center last summer that houses a state of the art jail.
Sheriff Deputy Todd Skarban has filed a declaration for candidacy for the sheriff position, which will be on the ballot in the November 6 election.
